Corporate Housing Industry Hosts an Educational Bed Bug Webinar
The Corporate Housing Industry Recruits Entomologist Richard Cooper of Bed Bug Central to Lead an Educational Bed Bug Webinar
Lawrenceville, N.J. (March, 25, 2010)— The Corporate Housing Providers Association (CHPA) responded to the employee housing industry’s spreading bed bug problem by hosting an educational bed bug webinar on March 23 with renowned entomologist Richard Cooper.
The CHPA’s webinar titled, “Fighting the Bed Bugs Battle” was sponsored by Protect-A-Bed® and designed to equip the corporate housing industry with information to make informed decisions on how to prevent or effectively deal with bed bug infestations.
The CHPA is an association that represents the interests of the corporate housing providers and serves as an industry educator and resource. Like other lodging and housing sectors, corporate housing has witnessed the presence of bed bugs emerge as a growing problem. Rita Haney, an executive of Protect-A-Bed’s corporate housing division, acknowledges that bed bugs have become a considerable issue for corporate housing property owners.
“Bed bugs have undoubtedly escalated into a serious issue that now affects even the cleanest and most affluent properties in every corner of the country,” Haney said. “And with that comes legal and financial implications that can be devastating to a property, not to mention its reputation.”
To educate the corporate housing industry, CHPA recruited Richard Cooper, renowned research entomologist and Vice President of Bed Bug Central, an authoritative bed bug information resource available to the public.
Cooper observes that the corporate housing industry needs to be especially knowledgeable on bed bug management because they are placing their clients into the multi-family housing market, one of the most severely affected markets for bed bug infestations.
“The clients placed in these rental units are affected by both the apartment manager’s and the corporate housing provider’s bed bug procedures and the quality of their pest management firm,” said Cooper. “These providers must be well educated on what they need to be doing and what all the other vendors they work with need to be doing.”
In spite of complex issues surrounding bed bug management in corporate housing, attendees were provided the information to implement proactive procedures to prevent or confront an infestation. They were also equipped with the knowledge needed to identify and treat bed bugs immediately, as well as manage costs and liability exposure.
