The resurgence of bed bugs has shown an increase in bed bug detection devices and technologies made available to consumers. In response to some concerning test results that were recently posted online, BedBug Central’s technical director, Jeffrey White, decided to conduct a further analysis of the abilities of real-time PCR to detect bed bug DNA in collaboration with Richard Naylor at the University of Sheffield.

White conducted earlier studies but on his own admission forgot to swab "other" bugs to be assured that the test only returns positive results on bed bugs or tropical bed bugs. In order to correct this, White conducted a new evaluation.
