Review: Climbup Insect Interceptor

Some important things that Bed Bug Central wants you to know about Climbup™ insect interceptors

The Climbup™ insect interceptor is a new device and while it can play a very important role in bed bug management efforts there are limitations that you should be aware of.

Climbup Insect Interceptor - Directions For Use

Bed Bug Central is confident that this device will continue to evolve and be improved and believes that benefits outweigh the existing faults.

Faults that you should be aware of include the following.

- Currently the device is not as aesthetically pleasing as it could be

- The inner wells must be kept lubricated with talcum powder or some of the bugs may be able to escape.  The traps do come pre-lubricated but may require re-lubrication from time to time.

- The strength of the plastic could be improved. The only real problem that we have seen is that the plastic floor of the inner well is susceptible to cracking under the heavy pressure of the bed frame legs.  This problem is more likely to occur when the interceptor devices have a plush carpet beneath them and thus do not have the support to prevent that plastic from breaking.

As mentioned above, Bed Bug Central is confident that these shortcomings will continue to be addressed, however the benefits of the device far outweigh the existing issues with the current design.

Keep in Mind that hen using the Climbup™ insect interceptors it is important to eliminate other avenues onto the furniture.  This can be done moving the bed or furniture several inches away from the wall, so that there is no contact with walls.  Nothing should be hanging off of the furniture that makes contact with the floor or wall (i.e. linens, dust ruffles, etc.).  Once this is done the only access to the bed will be to attempt access via the interceptor or to drop from the ceiling.
