Evaluation of Real-Time PCR for the Detection of Bed Bug DNA

The resurgence of bed bugs has shown an increase in bed bug detection devices and technologies made available to consumers. In response to some concerning test results that were recently posted online, BedBug Central’s technical director, Jeffrey White, decided to conduct a further analysis of the abilities of real-time PCR to detect bed bug DNA in collaboration with Richard Naylor at the University of Sheffield. 

BBC News Discusses the Possible Link Between Bed Bugs Resistance to Pesticides and the Tropics

According to a recent article in BBC News, research suggests that the re-emergence of the bed bug is due to insecticide usage in the tropics. The results were presented by Dr. Warren Booth and Dr. Coby Schal, of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, at the 60th annual American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Time Magazine Reports that Bed Bugs are Inbreeding and Become More Resistant to Pesticides

By now, we are all aware that bed bugs are everywhere. According to a recent article by Time Magazine, bed bugs are becoming even stronger because they are able to inbreed. There are very few other insect species capable of this, and because of the tiny blood-suckers ability to inbreed, they are become more resistant to pesticides.
